Winklepickers
Winklepickers have been around since the 1950s in varying guises. Originally believed to be based on the medieval Poulaines worn by French aristocracy back in the day, modern versions came back to prominence in the early sixties when they were adopted initially by those super fashion conscious Modernists (forerunners to Mods) as a response to the rather more rounded shape of the Brothel Creepers favoured by Teddy Boys. Perhaps most famous in the sixties were the ultra long winklepickers handmade by Stan Bartholomeu. Check this link to watch Pathe Newsreel footage of a pair of ladies winklepickers being made.

By Day
How do you define a shoe categorised By Day. I suppose the simplest thing is to say it is a shoe you wear during the day. Doing what during the day? Now there’s the rub. There are so many things to do during the day wearing a pair of Paolo Vandini shoes that it would be insane to attempt to list them all. So have a look at our By Day collection and try to think of some of the things you can’t do wearing them because all the obvious things are covered.
